Sustainability & Environment
Lead with purpose. Built for the circular economy.
OUR POSITION
Lead that begins where waste ends
At Royston Lead Limited, environmental stewardship is not a commitment we made recently; it is built into the very structure of how we source, produce, and supply our products. As part of the IMI Group, we sit at the heart of a genuinely closed-loop industrial ecosystem.
Most of our lead alloy raw materials are supplied by Envirowales, our sister company and the UK’s most advanced lead-acid battery recycling facility. This is a planned, structural commitment to the circular economy, ensuring that the lead within our finished products traces back not to primary mining, but to the recovery and transformation of spent batteries that would otherwise become hazardous waste.
THE CIRCULAR LOOP
From waste to excellence and back again
Lead is one of the world’s most sustainably managed metals. Global recycling rates for lead consistently exceed 95%, a record virtually unmatched by any other industrial material. Royston Lead Limited is committed to maintaining this ethic throughout our manufacturing process.
This closed loop is a standard practice of our day-to-day operation, a reality as to how we source our raw materials and how the products we supply will ultimately be recovered and recycled.
OUR PILLARS
Sustainability is not a footnote. It is our foundation.
Recycled Raw Materials
All secondary lead we use avoids the energy-intensive and environmentally destructive process of primary smelting from raw ore.
Regulatory Compliance & Best Practice
Our company operations adhere to all applicable UK environmental permitting and regulatory requirements. We are committed to continuous improvement, drawing on group-wide environmental management expertise.
Energy & Emissions Reduction
Secondary lead smelting requires significantly less energy than producing primary lead from raw ore. By anchoring our supply to recycled feedstock, we structurally reduce the carbon intensity of our manufacturing process, and we continue to explore further efficiency improvements across our group operations.
Responsible Stewardship
Lead is one of the most sustainably circular metals on earth with global recycling rates consistently above 95%. We take our responsibility to uphold and advance this record through rigorous process controls, employee training, and active participation in industry sustainability initiatives.
Our 100-year heritage is more than just a milestone; it is our foundation. A foundation built on a deep technical understanding, consistent quality and service, driven by a practical innovative approach to solving complex challenges.
