The Early Days
Originally founded on the old Pogmoor Brick Works site as George Royston & Sons in c.1920, the company quickly established an international reputation for the manufacture of steel vessels and assemblies used in a wide range of heavy industries.
As part of its portfolio the company manufactured process plant in which lead was used extensively to line the equipment, preventing in-process damage by protecting the steel structure from decay.
Little is known about the company’s early development, however by 1946 it had grown sufficiently to be formally incorporated before becoming Royston Lead Limited in 1989, being briefly listed as a Plc before re-entering private ownership in its current guise.
Throughout the later part of twentieth century the Company continued to grow and the premises were gradually developed as the staffing level increased.
As the market in manufacture of heavy steel fabrications diminished, Royston used its lead expertise to develop a wider range of lead products, seeing it become a major global manufacturer of anodes for the refining of copper and zinc.
By the late 1990’s the company’s international presence was exemplified by its premium status, focused on servicing the burgeoning copper industry in Chile with the newly developed rolled tin-calcium anodes.
Over the years Royston Lead, with its global reputation in major markets, developed an enviable standing as a local employer with a well-trained and loyal workforce.
From the roofs of Britain’s’ Cathedrals and best known stately homes, to ballast for shipping, the Company’s products are envied by its competitors and espoused by its customers.

Domestically we continue to produce shielding products through the works for Nuclear, Medical and NDT industries, ballast for Onshore and Offshore applications and premium quality cast lead and ancillaries for the Construction Industry.
With over 600 tonnes of lead products sold monthly we have deliveries leaving the works every day and logistics capability that make sure we can deliver virtually anywhere at any time.
With such a pedigree of industrial manufacture we remain a notable local employer, with standards that have led to a number of our staff remaining with us for over twenty years. We continue to train new employees in skills, both traditional and modern.
