Lead Consultancy Services
Consultancy from concept to product realisation:
Full-Product life cycle & Consultancy service from Royston Lead
A century of specialist lead engineering and manufacturing experience applied to your project from the first concept design conversation to the day your lead comes to you as a product and back to be recycled for a second life.
Get the alloy, the shape and the detail your product must have and your product will perform for decades.
Royston Lead, do not simply supply material against a specification and detailed drawing; but we are here to be consulted on any of your challenges. From concept through detail design alloy selection, manufacture and repair, right through to end-of-life recycling, our team works alongside you. More like a partner than just a vendor.
We have spent more than 100 years in learning, designing and manufacturing lead products for the nuclear, defence, healthcare, marine, construction and metals refining sectors. Royston Lead as part of the IMI Group of companies has a century of specialist know-how and metallurgical expertise. We combine this with a full recycling capability giving our clients a genuinely cradle to cradle service
Consultancy service at every stage of a Project
Every project is different, and only few arrive on our desk fully specified, but that is not a problem at Royston Lead. Whatever stage you are at, our specialist sales and engineering team is on hand to shape the right solution for your application, your budget and your programme.
1. Design
We work with engineers, designers, contractors and OEMs from the earliest concept stage, helping translate a technical brief into a product whether: a radiotherapy bunker, an anode, a subsea ballast or anything else. Including if a project calls for radiation shielding, we can liaise directly with your radiation protection adviser (RPA) and design team to help optimise your solution.
2. Engineering Support
Behind every Royston Lead product sits an engineering team who have, in all likelihood, already solved a very similar challenge. We provide technical and engineering support throughout casting, extruding, milling, routing, filling, welding and CNC machining, to deliver to you complex structural, shielding or corrosion-protection products right before they reach site, not after.
3. Lead Alloy Choice
Not all lead is the same, and the right alloy is rarely obvious. Drawing on deep metallurgical knowledge strengthened by access to IMI Group metallurgists’ team, we help clients select and, where needed, develop bespoke lead alloys tailored to the specific electrolyte, environment or operating condition in question. From tin-calcium anodes for copper and zinc electrowinning to high-purity lead for corrosion protection, our alloy expertise ensures process consistency, operational stability and a longer service life, whatever the application.
4. Manufacture, Fabrication and Installation
Once a specification is agreed, our Barnsley works casts, mills, fills and machines components ranging from a few grammes to more than 20 tonnes structure. Radiation shielding, transfer flasks, lead-lined vessels, cast sheet, bricks, chevrons, anodes, ballast and bespoke fabrications among them. Engineered and manufactured to exacting standards to support compliance.
5. Post-Sale and Operational Support
Our involvement does not end when your product is delivered. Our team remains available for any technical support you might have. Whether that is on-site guidance during installation and any lead handing until after a project has been completed. Ensuring our products will perform as designed throughout their working life. Furthermore we have wealth of experience in on-site repair and maintenance.
6. Reuse and Recycling
Lead is one of the most recyclable materials on earth, it can be recycled time and time again. Royston Lead can advise Clients about their recycling options which is not only valuable for the environment but it could be cost saving. The future recycling of your lead product must be planned from the beginning, not as an afterthought. Wherever possible we adopt a cradle-to-cradle recycling approach backed by our IMI Group’s full recycling service.
